The US Department of Labor's OSHA (Occupational Health and Safety Administration) mission is to prevent work-related injuries, illnesses and deaths. The OSHA curriculum will teach you how to establish procedures to increase safety in the workplace. Course Description:

Accident Investigation

 

Overview:

 

This course describes how and why workplace accidents are investigated.  It is appropriate for anyone who has been involved in a workplace accident and/or the accident investigation process. It serves as an introduction for those who are unfamiliar with accident investigations and as a refresher for those who have some experience with accident investigations. It also discusses the process of Root Cause Analysis and reviews safety practices that can help prevent accidents from occurring.

Objectives 

Upon completion this course you will be able to:

  • Understand the goals of an Accident Investigation and how it can prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future

  • Secure an accident scene

  • Apply Root Cause Analysis to an Accident Investigation

  • Understand why complete and thorough interviews are important, and how you can help in this process

  • Report close calls and near misses effectively

  • Understand the role of policies, equipment and training in preventing accidents

Course Description:

Back Safety

Overview:

 

This course explains the physiology of the back and presents common types and causes of back injuries. It also describes injury prevention, safety practices, basic back exercises, and proper lifting techniques. It is appropriate for all employees, whether their job involves heavy lifting or not. Any employee can benefit from the information, exercises, and techniques in this course.

Objectives 

Upon completion this course you will be able to:

  • Understand how the back is constructed and how it works

  • Understand the potential effects of back injuries

  • Apply effective back care and safety practices

  • Lift various types of objects safely

  • Perform basic back exercises

Course Description:

Basic First Aid

Overview:

 

This interactive training course describes the types of injuries most often encountered in the workplace and explains how to treat them. It illustrates basic first aid procedures for such things as bites and stings, burns, choking and heat stroke. It is appropriate for all employees.

Objectives 

Upon completion this course you will be able to:

  • Recognize basic types of workplace injuries

  • Know how to treat cuts, scrapes and blisters

  • Understand the precautions to taken when dealing with injuries involving bleeding

  • Know how to handle victims with broken bones and fractures

  • Know the Heimlich maneuver

  • Know when to seek emergency medical assistance

Duration:

This course takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes to complete.

 

Advanced First Aid

Overview:

 

This interactive training course describes some of the serious injuries that may be encountered in the workplace and explains how to treat them. It illustrates first aid procedures for such serious conditions as broken bones, heart attacks, poisoning and seizures. This course is appropriate for all employees who have completed the Basic First Aid program.

Objectives 

Upon completion this course you will be able to:

  • Know how to treat more serious conditions, such as diabetic emergencies and heart attacks

  • Administer first aid in confined spaces

  • List the precautions to be taken when dealing with injuries involving bleeding

  • Know how to handle victims with broken bones and fractures

  • Identify the symptoms of a poisoning

Know when Rescue Breathing (artificial respiration) and CPR should be used

Duration:

This course takes approximately 25 to 30 minutes to complete.

Course Description:

Basic Lock-Out/Tag-Out

Overview:

 

This course describes basic Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures and the potential dangers of working with "energized" equipment and machinery. It explains the rules for conducting safe, general Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures. Completion of this course will allow employees to recognize situations where Lock-Out/Tag-Out should be used, analyze the Lock-Out/Tag-Out situation, and determine what procedures should be followed. It is targeted for employees who need to learn about Lock-Out/Tag-Out and the devices commonly used with various types of equipment.

Objectives 

Upon completion this course you will be able to:

  • State the purpose of Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LO/TO)

  • Understand the dangers of working on "energized" equipment

  • Describe how Lock-Out/Tag-Out works

  • Recognize devices commonly used in LO/TO operations & their most appropriate applications

  • Identify situations where Lock-Out/Tag-Out is necessary

  • Identify the most common types of energy used in industry

  • Describe how to dissipate stored energy from various types of equipment

Course Description: 

Advanced Lock-Out/Tag-Out

Overview:

 

Advanced Lock-Out/Tag-Out describes procedures specific to electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. This course also describes special situations, such as shift changes, "linked" equipment, multiple people servicing a machine, or involvement of outside personnel. It is appropriate for employees who already understand basic Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures, including the purpose for Lock-Out/Tag-Out and the devices used, and who now need to learn specific procedures for electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and additional procedures for special situations.

Objectives 

Upon completion this course you will be able to:

  • Describe the proper procedure for locking and tagging electrical equipment

  • Describe the proper procedure for locking and tagging hydraulic and pneumatic equipment

  • Properly release equipment after Lock-Out/Tag-Out has been completed

  • Describe the proper procedure for temporarily restarting equipment if necessary

  • Identify special situations that require additional Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures

  • Perform additional Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures in these situations

Course Description:

         Bloodborne Pathogens For Employees

Overview:

 

Exposure to bloodborne diseases is a serious concern today. In 1991, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration created a regulation dealing with bloodborne pathogens-the disease-causing microorganisms found in human blood components and products. This course will show you how exposure to bloodborne pathogens occurs so that you can help protect yourself and others. It is designed for employees at all organizational levels.

Objectives 

Upon completion this course you will be able to:

  • Recognize the symptoms and risks of major bloodborne diseases

  • Identify the components of an Exposure Control Plan

  • Explain how bloodborne pathogens are transmitted

  • Reduce your risk of exposure to contamination

Course Description:

Conducting Safety Audits

Overview:

 

This course is designed to help employees understand the reasons for workplace safety audits and the methods by which audits are conducted. After completing this course you will be able to identify work areas that need to be surveyed to ensure worker safety, how facility-wide safety audits are conducted, and how to do a personal safety audit. This course is appropriate for anyone involved in the safety audit process. It serves as an introduction for those unfamiliar with safety audits and as a refresher for those who have been involved in safety audits in the past.

Upon completion this course you will be able to:

  • Explain the importance of conducting a Workplace Analysis

  • Define the System of Controls used to reduce or eliminate hazards at your facility

Course Description:

                                      Driving Safety

Overview:

 

This course provides an overview of how to drive safely. You will see how to avoid situations where a lack of focus can cause an accident. You will also get some tips on how to handle a vehicle when driving through rain or snow or when confronted with an emergency. It is appropriate for anyone who drives a motor vehicle.

Objectives 

Upon completion this course you will be able to:

  • Understand how four human factors are responsible for most traffic accidents

  • Learn how regular maintenance of a vehicle can prevent accidents

  • Determine how a "test-drive" can help avoid dangerous driving situations

  • Understand how following basic driving rules can dramatically reduce accidents & injuries

  • Recognize and avoid driving hazards

  • Handle a vehicle safely when confronted with poor road conditions or emergency situations

Course Description:

        Fire Prevention and Safety

 

Overview:

 

This course provides basic information on the precautions and procedures necessary for fire protection and safety in the workplace. Topics covered include fire prevention techniques, the types and classes of fires and fire extinguishers, and first aid procedures for dealing with fire-related injuries. This course is appropriate for all employees.

Objectives 

Upon completion this course you will be able to:

  • Recognize fire hazards and know how to remedy them

  • Implement a good fire prevention and housekeeping program

  • Evacuate your work area in case of fire

  • Recognize the various classes of fires and know which type of fire extinguisher can be used for each class

Course Description:

Materials Handling Safety

Overview:

 

This course will help you recognize hazardous material handling situations. The course reviews proper lifting and moving techniques and describes how to use Handling Equipment safely. Other topics include how to select the personal protective equipment needed to handle materials safely, and how to properly use powered lifting devices. This course is appropriate for everyone involved in the process of materials handling.

Even the most safety conscious employee may not be aware of the demands that are placed on the body by a job, work area, or by the equipment and tools they use. This course helps to remind employees of ergonomic problems that can occur in the office, and offers solutions to these problems. This course presents the fundamentals of good ergonomic practices. This course is appropriate for all employees.

  • Recognize how certain types of movements can cause ergonomic problems

  • Know what parts of your body are most often affected by these problems

        Office Ergonomics: An Overview

Overview:

 

Decades of human machine interface in the workplace has produced significant risk to the physical and psychological well being of employees. It is often the most repeated tasks that can bring the greatest discomfort and injury to an employee. Chronic discomfort also reduces the productivity and quality of work. This course is designed to train participants in the essentials of understanding ergonomic principles as they relate to the office environment. This course is intended for those who work in an office setting and who want to understand and eliminate the kinds of injuries that result from poorly designed work procedures.

Overview:

 

This course is designed to familiarize you with OSHA's Hazardous Communications Standard (Right-To-Know) as it relates to various types of hazardous substances in the workplace. After completing this course you will be able to identify hazardous substances and take precautions to prevent harmful exposure.
